The Invisible World Around Us Is Full of Science – We Just Need to Look Deeper

As part of the “Science for the Future” promotional campaign, within the Community Impact Programme implemented with the support of Johnson Matthey, we are sharing the inspiring story of Ubavka Djinov, a chemistry and science teacher at “11 Oktomvri” Primary School, Municipality of Centar - Skopje.

Through her message, she encourages students to discover the magic of science that surrounds us every day:  “Without chemistry, there is no life! Chemistry is the key to the invisible world – an exciting science that creates real magic through the prism of life. Through experiments, it gives us the power to see the invisible, to stay curious, and to create solutions for the future.”

In her personal story, Ubavka challenges the perception that chemistry is difficult and inaccessible: “When you hear the word chemistry, you often think of complicated formulas, equations, and tables. But I am here to give you a new pair of eyes through which you can see the world differently. Chemistry is not only found in a laboratory – it is in the breath you are taking right now, in the color of your sneakers, and in the way your body transforms food into energy.”

As a teacher, she sees chemistry as a calling, not simply a profession - a role that brings together the scientist, mentor, and “magician.” Her mission is clear: to demonstrate that, with the right approach, science can be understandable, logical, and fun for everyone, and that chemistry can be the starting point for innovative solutions that shape our future.
